REAL ESTATE RECORDS
The Auditor’s office
maintains the records of all real estate transfers in the county
keeping plat maps and transfer books current so that the public
can examine the books to determine property ownership. Our Office
works closely with area realtors, attorneys, property owners and
other individuals who deal with real estate transactions.
HISTORY
The Auditor’s
Office was actually the result of government reorganization back
in 1870. Prior to that the County Judge acted as auditor, and
then the Clerk of Court in 1861 when the Board of Supervisors was
first formed. It was in the early 1970’s
that the State Legislature added the duties of Commissioner
of Elections to the office.
The position of County Auditor is an elected position. This position
is elected during the presidential general election for a term
of 4 years.
