What is the Main Street Program?
We offer an approach to downtown revitalization focusing on four key areas known as the Main Street Four Point Approach. Those four points consist of:

* Organization - Building concensus and cooperation between the groups that play a roll in the downtown.
Our goal is to build a framework for sensible, volunteer-driven programming and organizational structure that matches the community's assets and potential.

* Promotion - Involves marketing the downtown's unique characteristics to shoppers, investors, new businesses, tourists and others. Effective promotion creates a positive image of the downtown through retail promotional activity, special events and ongoing programs to build positive perceptions of the district.

* Design - Contributes to improving the downtown's image by enhancing its physical appearance, not just that of buidlings but also street lights, window displays, parking areas, sidewalks, promotional materials and all otehr elements that convey a visual message about what the downtown is and what it has to offer.

* Business Improvement - Strengthening the existing economic base of the downtown while diversifying it. Economic restructuring activities include helping existing businesses expand, recruiting new businesses to provide a balanced mix, converting unused space into productive property and sharpening the competitiveness of downtown businesses.

A Little History
Chartered in 1991, the Hampton Main Street became one of nine rural main street communities to gain approval from the Iowa Main Street Program. As a part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Iowa Main Street Program sets the bar for rural downtown development. The Hampton Main Street Program is one of the original communities playing a part in the development of the rural Main Street Program.

Awards - Main Street Hampton is a nationally certified Main Street community.

Since our goal is to bring people back to the downtown we plan a variety of fun events that appeals to all ages and interests. Come on in and join us!
